1. WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

The personal information you disclose to us

We collect personal information that you provide to us such as name, address, contact information, date of birth, academic history, district of origin, passport photographs, passwords, and payment information.

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when registering as a member/student , job applicant, or service provider hence expressing an interest in obtaining information about ICPAU and our products and services.

The personal information that we collect depends on the context of your interactions with us and the features you use. All personal information that you provide to us must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must update your user account with any changes that occur.

Publicly Available Personal Information and information from third parties

We may collect limited data from public databases, marketing partners, and other outside sources Examples of the information we receive from other sources include social media information, information from tuition providers and partners of ICPAU.

Automatically collected information

Through Google Analytics, we use cookies to collect and temporarily store anonymous traffic data and technical information about your visit to our websites for use in website management and security purposes.

The type of information collected includes the internet domain from which you access the website, IP address, type of browser, operating system, the date and time of access, the username used to log in, any links followed from another website.

2. DO WE COLLECT INFORMATION FROM MINORS?

We do not knowingly solicit data from children under 18 years of age. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 or that you are the parent or guardian of such a minor and consent to such minor dependent’s use of the Services. If you become aware of any data we have collected from children, please contact us at corporateservices@icpau.co.ug so that we can delete such information.

 

 

3. HOW DO WE USE YOUR INFORMATION?

We process your information for purposes based on the fulfillment of the ICPAU mandate, the fulfillment of our contract with you, compliance with our legal obligations, and/or your consent.

We use personal information collected via our online forums for a variety of business purposes described below. We process your personal information for these purposes in reliance on our mandate, to enter into or perform a contract with you, with your consent, and/or for compliance with our legal obligations. We indicate the specific processing grounds we rely on next to each purpose listed below.

We use the information we collect or receive:

  • To facilitate account creation and log-on process. As a student or member, you hold an account with us, where your personal information is displayed, and where you can access our services. This information must be updated, and we periodically ask you to verify it before you can access any services.
  • To send you promotional and other communications. We may use the personal information you send to us for promoting ICPAU events and services and job adverts. You can opt-out of receiving these communications by sending an email to communications@icpau.co.ug
  • To send administrative information to you. We may use your personal information to send you product, service, and new feature information and/or information about changes to our terms, conditions, and policies.
  • Fulfill and manage your orders. We may use your information to fulfill and manage your CPDs, payments, examinations, textbooks, and promotional products such as bags and shirts.
  • Request Feedback. We may use your information to request feedback and to contact you about your use of our Services.
  • To manage user accounts. We may use your information to manage your account and keep it in working order.
  • To respond to user inquiries/offer support to users. We may use your information to respond to your inquiries and solve any potential issues you might have with the use of our services.
  • To comply with our legal obligations. This includes providing information to regulators, law enforcement, and statutory bodies.

4. WILL YOUR INFORMATION BE SHARED WITH ANYONE?

We only share information with your consent, to comply with laws, to provide you with services, to protect your rights, or to fulfill business obligations.

We may share your information with vendors, consultants, and other third party service providers, business partners, and law enforcement or government regulatory agencies.

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any of your information with third parties for their promotional purposes.

We may process or share data based on the following legal basis:

  • Consent: We may process your data if you have given us specific consent to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or implied consent to fulfill the ICPAU mandate. We may share your information with potential employers and recruiters. ICPAU will display the roll of accountants and practitioners on the ICPAU website. This roll will also be periodically published in the mass media.
  • Legitimate Interests: We may process your data when it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests as highlighted in the Accountants Act, 2013.
  • Performance of a Contract: Where we have entered into a contract with you, we may process your personal information to fulfill the terms of our contract.
  • Legal Obligations: We may disclose your information where we are legally required to do so to comply with applicable law, governmental requests, a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal processes, such as in response to a court order or a subpoena (including in response to public authorities to meet national security or law enforcement requirements).
  • Vital Interests: We may disclose your information where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding potential violations of our policies, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person and illegal activities, or as evidence in litigation in which we are involved.

5. DO WE USE COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES?

We may use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect and store your information.

A cookie is a special packet of data designed to help a website operator determine whether a particular user has visited the website previously and what the user’s preferences are.

We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (like web beacons and pixels) to access or store information, to enrich user experience.

ICPAU websites contain links to other sites. However, we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our website and to read the privacy statement of every website that collects personal information.

7. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION?

We will only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this privacy policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements).

When we have no ongoing legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it, or, if this is not possible (for example, because your personal information has been stored in backup archives), then we will securely store your personal information and isolate it from any further processing.

8. HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION SAFE?

We aim to protect your personal information through a system of organizational and technical security measures.

We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational security measures designed to protect the security of any personal information we process. However, please also remember that we cannot guarantee that the internet itself is 100% secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal information, the transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk. You should only access the services within a secure environment.

9. WHAT ARE YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS?

You may access, review, change or update your personal information through your ICPAU member/student account at any time. You may request to view, update, or delete your personal information by emailing us ar corporateservices@icpau.co.ug and we shall respond to your request within 30 days.

You may ask to stop receiving communications from ICPAU and for your user account to be deactivated by sending an email to corporateservices@icpau.co.ug . However, information may be retained in our files to prevent fraud, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our Terms of use, and/or comply with legal requirements.

10. CONTROLS FOR DO-NOT-TRACK FEATURES

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems and mobile applications include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. No uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this privacy policy.

11. DO WE MAKE UPDATES TO THIS POLICY?

Yes, we will update this policy as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Revised” date and the updated version will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this privacy policy frequently to be informed of how we are protecting your information.
