CPA Edward Akol is the Auditor General of the Republic of Uganda. He joined the Office of the Auditor General in 1994 as an auditor and rose through the ranks to his current position.
CPA Akol is a member of the Council of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) representing the Office of the Auditor General and he is the chairperson of the Audit Committee of ICPAU. He is also the chairperson of the Board of Auditors of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). The COMESA Board is responsible for the audit of accounts of COMESA and its affiliates.
Previously, CPA Akol was the vice chairperson of the multi-sector committee for the development of the National Audit Act and Regulations that currently govern the operations of the Office of the Auditor General. This committee was pivotal in the development and passing of the OAG National Audit Act 2008 which is in use today.
CPA Akol has extensive knowledge and experience in public sector accounting and audit. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) of over 17 years with membership of ICPAU and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot Watt university – Scotland, a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting from Makerere University and several certificates through extensive trainings in public sector audits including leadership and management courses at Havard University, AFROSAI E and Crown Agents.
