CPA Prof. Laura Aseru Orobia is a full member of ICPAU since 2009. 

Her motivation for seeking re-election is to continue advancing professional development, advancing knowledge creation through research, enhancing public perception of the profession, supporting members well-being and enhancing the linkage between universities, other Institutions and ICPAU to promote accountancy education in the country.

Her main objective is to strengthen the accountancy education and research functions of ICPAU, enhance the Institute’s existing linkages with universities and other institutions as well as to support members well-being.

Laura is an active member of ICPAU, currently serving as a Chairperson of the Education & Research Committee and a member of the Public Accountants Examinations Board.  She previously served as member of the ICPAU’s Education & Research Committee and Events Management Committee.

During her term of office as Chairperson of the ICPAU Education & Research Committee of the outgoing Council the following, among others, have been achieved;
    (a) A research section has been established at the Institute in a bid to promote accountancy research and actualise the provisions of the Accountants Act, 2013.
    (b) Research polices have been revised to enhance smooth implementation of the research agenda at the Institute. 
    (c) Concluded 4 researches.
    (d) The CPA, CTA and ATD syllabuses were revised and approved.
    (e) Commissioned writers and reviewers for CPA study packs.
    (f) Introduced computer-based examinations starting with Paper 18 (Integration of Knowledge) of the May/June 2023 examinations diet. 
    (g) The Uganda Accountancy Qualification Framework was developed by the Committee and approved by NCHE. 
    (h) Introduced the Public Finance Management Conference.
    (i) Implemented the practical experience training (PET) which is a prerequisite for attaining full membership of ICPAU.

Laura is a Professor/Deputy Dean-Faculty of graduate studies and research at Makerere University Business School.  She previously served as Associate Professor/ Heading of Department of Accounting & Finance (Academics) at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), lecturer as well as Senior Lecturer at the same University.  Between 2006-2017, Laura was an associate Consultant with Sejjaaka, Kaawaase & Co, Certified Public Accountants.

Apart from her experience at MUBS, Laura has participated in programme assessment at National Council for Higher Education Uganda and Namibia, her experience will be relevant in the education sphere of the Institute which includes syllabus evaluation, study material approvals, CPD programme approvals etc. 

She holds a PHD in Accounting, a Master of Science in Accounting & Finance and Bachelors in Business Administration (Accounting) from Makerere University
