PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS EXAMINATIONS BOARD
of the
INSTITUTE OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF UGANDA
RELEASE OF SEPTEMBER 2022 EXAMINATIONS RESULTS
TUESDAY, 4 OCTOBER 2022
The President,
The Vice President,
Members of Council,
Members of PAEB,
Secretariat Staff,
Members of the Press,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
1.0 INTRODUCTION
On behalf of the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) and on my own behalf, I wish to welcome you to the release of results for the September 2022 examinations diet. This is the third of the planned four (4) diets of PAEB’s examinations 2022 year calendar, the first and second having been in March and June respectively, while the fourth being planned for December 2022.
As you are aware, PAEB had introduced a fourth (March) diet in 2021 to enable students recover lost time due to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking ahead, PAEB believes that the disruptions caused by the pandemic have abated significantly to warrant going back to the normal examinations year calendar of three (3) diets, that is, May/June, August/September and November/December starting next year (2023). This will also enable students to prepare themselves adequately for the revised syllabi, which are due to be examined with effect from May/June next year.
2.0 REVISION OF SYLLABUSES
Before I delve into the examinations results, I wish to inform the stakeholders that the revised ATD and CPA syllabuses have been approved by the National Council for Higher Education as required by Section 16(2) of the Accountants Act 2013. They will be examinable in June 2023. The Secretariat will be communicating the roll out plan in the coming days.
The PAEB has approved the revised CTA syllabus and updates will be provided in due course.
3.0 SEPTEMBER 2022 EXAMINATIONS RESULTS
For your information, the September 2022 examinations were conducted only in Kampala and only for the CPA(U) course from Monday 12 – Friday 16, at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) Lugogo Showgrounds, Multipurpose Hall. The average pass rate has slightly declined from 39.6% in March 2022 to 35.8% this September.
Performance in the core/ computational/ analytical subjects such as Financial Reporting, Management Decision
& Control, Advanced Financial Reporting, Advanced Financial Management, Auditing and Other Assurance Services and this time including Integration of Knowledge has not been impressive. Those who failed these subjects were lacking, among others, in interpretation, computation, communication and analytical skills. I therefore call upon the students, as well as tuition providers to address these issues for better performance in future examinations and especially execution of assignments in the workplace.
In terms of gender, out of the 4,762 papers attempted, 2,477 (52%) were by females and 2,285 (48%) by males. The individual papers passed by female candidates were 897 (18.8%) of the females and 809 (17%) were by male candidates.
In addition, 733 (43%) of the 1,706 passes registered were on first attempt of the various papers. This represents an improvement compared with the March 2022 diet where 534 (34.2%) of the 1,560 passes were obtained on the first attempt. It would indeed be a very good thing if the majority of the candidates could pass on first attempt.
In terms of age, of the 1,706 passes registered, 254 (14.9%) were by candidates in the 18 – 24 years age bracket, 744 (43.6%) in 25 – 29 years age bracket and 440 (25.8%) in the
30 – 34 years age bracket. The remaining 268 (15.7%) passes were registered by candidates above the 34 years age.

4.0 CLOSING REMARKS
PAEB congratulates those who have passed their various examination papers, the top candidates in the various subjects and especially those who have completed the CPA(U) course.
As we come close to the end of the year, PAEB wishes to remind students, tuition providers, sponsors and all concerned stakeholders of the launching of the revised syllabuses next year. Examinations under the revised syllabuses are expected to be conducted with effect from the May/June 2023 diet. It is for this reason that PAEB will not conduct examinations in March 2023.
As PAEB, we acknowledge the resources expended by examiners, moderators, markers, security officials, invigilators, other service providers, the ICPAU Secretariat, and the candidates towards the success of the September 2022 examinations in particular and PAEB’s examinations scheme in general.
It is now my humble honour and privilege to invite you, Mr. President, to release the September 2022 examinations results.
