1.0 INTRODUCTION

On behalf of the Public Accountants Examinations Board (PAEB) and on my own behalf, I welcome you to the release of the November 2018 examinations results. I also take this opportunity to wish you a happy new year.

In a special way, I welcome our comrades from the various media houses. You are our link to the general public. We also appreciate our cordial relationship with you. I thank you so much for always honouring our invitations to cover our functions.

EXAMINATIONS RESULTS

As you are aware the Institute conducts 3 examinations diets in June, August and December for the Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD), Certified Public Accountants (CPA), and Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) courses. We are

here this morning to release the results for the December 2018 examinations diet, which were administered between 26 and 30 November, 2018 at all our examinations centres in Arua, Fort Portal, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Mbale and Nkozi. This time round 6,202 candidates attempted the examinations compared to 6,139 candidates who sat for the June, 2018 examinations.

ACCOUNTING TECHNICIANS DIPLOMA (ATD) EXAMINATIONS

A total of 247 candidates sat for the December 2018 examinations compared to 271 who sat in June 2018. The average pass rate was 49.4% compared to 44.4% in June 2018.

In terms of gender, 56.7% of those who passed were female and 43.3% were male. In addition, 57.1% of those candidates who passed made it on their first attempt. We wish to encourage these candidates to keep working hard so that they can complete the course in the shortest time possible. In terms of age, 69% of those who passed were in the age bracket of 18-24 years, followed by 25-29 at 21%. These are dynamic young people with a lot of energy in them to serve the nation in different capacities. We congratulate them for their efforts. 22 candidates completed the ATD course compared to 19 in June 2018.

Of the 22 candidates, 14 (64%) were female and 8 (36%) were male. The list of finalists is attached (see Appendix 1).

This brings the number of students who have completed the ATD course to 1,730.

CERTIFIED TAX ADVISOR (CTA) EXAMINATIONS

102 candidates sat for the December 2018 examinations compared to 101 who sat in June 2018.

The average pass rate was 53.3% compared to 42.6% in June 2018.

In terms of gender, 25% of those who passed were female and 75% were male.

In addition, 54.7% of those candidates who passed made it on their first attempt. We urge these candidates to maintain the flame so as complete in the shortest time possible.

Of the 15 candidates, 3 (20%) were female and 12 (80%) were male. The list of finalists is attached (see Appendix 2).

The cumulative total number of students who have completed the CTA course is now 36.

CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS OF UGANDA (CPA) EXAMINATIONS

5,853 candidates sat for the December 2018 examinations compared to 5,766 who sat in June 2018. Performance in the individual subjects is given as follows:

The average pass rate was 39.7% compared to 34.1% in June 2018

In terms of gender, 53.2% of those who passed were female while 46.8% were male. Therefore, I congratulate the female candidates for the good performance.

In addition, 66.9% of those candidates who passed made it on their first attempt. This is highly commendable because it shortens the time taken to complete the course.

In terms of age, 44.5% of those who passed were in the age bracket of 25-29 years, followed by 18-24 at 22.4%, while those in the bracket of 30-34 years passed at 18.2%. Congratulations to these candidates also for their efforts.

163 candidates completed the CPA(U) course compared to 127 in June 2018.

Of the 163 candidates, 83 (50.9%) were female while 80 (49.1%) were male. The list of finalists is attached (see Appendix 3).

This brings the number of students who have completed the CPA(U) course to 3,516.

3.0 CLOSING REMARKS

On behalf of the Public Accountants Examinations Board, I congratulate those candidates who passed their various examinations papers, the top candidates in each paper and those who have completed their courses. I encourage those who have not made it this time to work harder and pass next time round.

I convey our sincere appreciation to the examiners, moderators, markers, security teams, invigilators, service providers and the Secretariat for their contributions to the success of the November 2018 examinations.
