The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has introduced the Woman Accountant of the Year Award as part of the Accountancy Service Awards (ASA). The aim is to recognise the phenomenal contributions of female accountants in their organisations and communities.

“Traditionally, accountancy has been a male-dominated profession, but this state of affairs has changed,” said CPA Derick Nkajja the Secretary/CEO of ICPAU.

“Increasingly, women are taking up leadership positions and contributing tremendously to the Accounting profession, hence the need to recognise them,” he added.

The Accountancy Service Awards are premium annual awards of excellence aimed at recognising individuals or entities that have made outstanding contributions to the advancement of the accountancy profession in Uganda and beyond.

The 2024 ASA have 9 categories namely:

  1. ICPAU Gold Service Award
  2. CPA of the Year Award
  3. Young Accountant of the Year Award
  4. Woman Accountant of the Year Award
  5. Finance Team of the Year Award
  6. Accounting Firm of the Year Award
  7. Regional Members Network of the Year Award
  8. Institutional Partner of the Year Award
  9. Unique Humanitarian Award

Members of the public can nominate for the Unique Humanitarian Award category, while ICPAU students can submit nominations for the Finance Team of the Year, Regional Members Network of the Year, Institutional Partner of the Year, and Unique Humanitarian Award. Members of ICPAU can nominate candidates across all categories. Nominations are via www.icpau.co.ug and are open until 17 August 2024.

The Accountancy Service Awards evolve with the changing environment. Every year, the Members Services Committee of the ICPAU Council evaluates the award categories and adjusts them accordingly. The aim is to recognise and reward distinguished service to society by both accountants and non-accountants.

The 2024 Accountancy Service Awards will be presented on 6 September 2024 at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, Entebbe, during the 29th ICPAU Annual Seminar. The Awards were introduced in 2015 and are organised by ICPAU.

END.
