Accountants are readying themselves for the premium event of the year, the 29th Annual Seminar set to take place at the Imperial Resort Beach Hotel, and online, from 4 – 6 September 2024.

Organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) under the theme, Driving Sustainability and Trust, the event will emphasise the crucial role of accountants in fostering sustainable practices and enhancing trust in the accountancy profession. This year’s seminar will highlight the importance of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into business strategies, ensuring long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits.

“Accountants are the nexus between growth and sustainability,” said CPA Derick Nkajja, the Secretary/CEO of ICPAU. As part of our goals for the 29th Annual Seminar, we intend to remind ourselves of the pivotal roles that we play in fostering the sustainability of organisations through transparency and ethical practices,” said CPA Derick Nkajja, the Secretary/CEO of ICPAU.

ICPAU has curated an exciting lineup of topics to be discussed, including

Expected speakers include Ms. Mary Lilian Manyonga Nabunya, Mr. Peter Kahiigi, Mr. Stephen Mukasa, CPA Caroline Jebet Kigen, General Katumba Wamala, Mr. John Bosco Ntangaare, Prof. Jimmy Spire Ssentongo, Dr. Grace Obalim, Mr. Joseph Kabogoza, Mr. Joseph Kyazze, and Mr. Charles Magezi Mbiire.

The Annual Seminar’s comprehensive package includes recreational activities like joy sailing, an excursion to the Entebbe Reptile Village, and a visit to UWEC. Entertainers such as Abeeka Band, Azawi, and MCs Dr. Mich Egwang, CPA Aaron Ssemakula, Comedian, and actor Patrick Salvador Idringi will grace the colorful dinner. There will also be a medical camp offering various screening and other health services.

Other activities at the Annual Seminar include the launch of the ICPAU Benevolent Fund, the 2024 Accountancy Service Awards, and a farewell ceremony for ICPAU’s long-serving employee, John Bosco Ntangaare, the former Director of Education retired from the service of the Institute on 30 June 2024, after 26 years.

The Annual Seminar was introduced in 1995 to provide an avenue for accountants to enhance their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in non-technical fields such as personal finance, business, digital landscape, relationships, health, and parenting among other areas. It is the largest symposium of professionals in Uganda, attracting over 1,500 accountants, business leaders and executives, academicians, entrepreneurs, and other professionals.

About ICPAU

ICPAU is the national Professional Accountancy Organisation established in 1992 by an Act of Parliament, now the Accountants Act, 2013. The functions of the Institute, as prescribed by the Act, are:
