The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) has registered 404 graduates at its 15th graduation ceremony held on Thursday, 6 March 2025 at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.
The glamorous event had 353 graduates for the Certified Public Accountants (CPA) course, 19 graduates for the Certified Tax Advisor (CTA) course, and 32 graduates from the Accounting Technicians Diploma (ATD). These completed their courses in May, August, and December 2024.
While giving his welcome remarks, the ICPAU Secretary/CEO, CPA Derick Nkajja congratulated the new graduates and explained the opportunities that await them. These include, among others, joining the pool of more than 4000 ICPAU members and working together as accountants to develop the economy.
Additionally, the ICPAU President, CPA Josephine Ossiya, in her remarks delivered by the ICPAU Vice President, CPA Ronald Mutumba encouraged the graduates to embrace innovation, continue learning, and adapt to the dynamic global financial environment.
“The professional qualifications you have acquired are relevant to the country’s current job selection process. Therefore, use Continuing Professional Development to stay ahead in your career and contribute effectively to Uganda’s economic progress,” remarked CPA Ossiya.
In addition to the conferment, the CPA graduates took an oath to uphold the honour and dignity of the accounting profession and abide by the rules of professional conduct.
The chief guest, Grace Muliisa, the Managing Director of Ecobank Uganda congratulated the graduates on completing their respective courses and encouraged them to use their acquired skills and expertise to lead with excellence.
“The world awaits you, expecting you to use numbers to tell an impactful story that guides decision-making,” noted Muliisa.
“You are expected to be drivers of value, communicating effectively and favourably with other teams. Make effective use of the available digital tools to transform business; however, always prioritise integrity and humanity,” added Muliisa.
Among the graduates were two beneficiaries from the 1st and 3rd cohorts of the ICPAU Student Scholarship Programme, Lilian Bukirwa and Hanifah Nalugo. These were applauded for honouring the opportunity that the Institute granted them.
The event guest speaker, CPA Joseph Osako, who is also the reigning Young Accountant of the Year shared his experience as a young member of the Institute. According to him, the CPA journey is rewarding and transformative, pointing to a fulfilling future filled with numerous opportunities.
“Be reminded that to have a successful career, you must embrace continuous learning, dedication and integrity. Choose now to remain exceptional by applying for ICPAU membership, a great decision that brings countless opportunities,” noted CPA Osako.
Among the outstanding performers was Eria Mukasa Mwebe, an ATD graduate, who received seven merit awards. Additionally, 42 merit awards were given to the outstanding performers in recognition of their hard work.
