Overview:
Practical Experience Training (PET), also called practical training, is a regulatory requirement for all
CPA students, on their Initial Professional Development, and Associate members (CPA graduates)
aspiring to be professional accountants/members of ICPAU. PET supervisors and employers have
important roles in planning and monitoring practical training gained by the aspiring professional
accountants.
An accountant as defined by the Accountants Act, 2013 is person who is enrolled as a member of
the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda.
Therefore, an aspiring accountant is required to document PET on three of the seven technical
areas;
a. Financial reporting;
b. Auditing;
c. Taxation;
d. Financial management;
e. Management accounting;
f. Insolvency practice; and
g. Information technology.
Additionally, an aspiring accountant should document on all the three non-technical areas;
a. Communication skills;
b. Personal skills; and
c. Interpersonal & organisational skills.
