MAT ABACUS Business School, in collaboration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU), concluded the second module  for the 6th edition of the CFO Leadership Academy on 20 June 2024.

Having flagged off the 6th Cohort of the CFO Leadership Academy at a colourful ceremony at Mestil Hotel in May 2024, the CFO had their first module on the 23 May 2024 with a focus on self-exploration. The module used the CFO’s cover story approach to enable the participants paint their picture of the future.

The CFO Leadership Academy aims to enhance the capabilities of Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) by equipping them with the necessary skills to succeed in highly complex roles and prepare them for C-suite positions. It also enables them to effectively handle both internal and external pressures.

The second module facilitators were CPA Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Dr Peter Kimbowa and Dr. Eng Frank Sebbowa , who addressed the critical theme of Disruptive Leadership.

CPA Mwogeza emphasised the importance of focusing on long-term value rather than short-term challenges to ensure company sustainability. He highlighted the need for CFOs to narrow their focus on organisational competencies, urging them to adapt and evolve before external forces compel them to change.

“CFOs ought to ask the right questions, execute strategies effectively, and continuously reinvent themselves to stay ahead of disruption,” CPA Mwogeza stressed.

Dr Peter Kimbowa, the Board Chairperson of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) delivered a compelling presentation on the integrity of legacy and how to anchor it in CFO roles.

He posed questions about influencing positive change and aspiring to be game-changers. He encouraged participants to leverage disruption to create opportunities and add value at minimal costs.

Dr Kimbowa mentioned several strategies for causing disruption, including fostering curiosity, challenging the status quo, identifying untapped opportunities, and forward-thinking. He advocated for risk-taking, reimagining traditional practices, and maintaining an open-minded approach to drive innovation and success.
